Also, guys are fairly picky about which type of tremolo is chosen, and manyNeither of which is available on the Highway.Finally, many guys have a love hate relationship over the headstock size.BTW it was May/June 2005 when the Highway switched to big headstocks and from size 6100 (jumbo) to 6000 (super) fret sizes. Guys are pretty adamant about their preferences so a dollar for dollar comparo kinda breaks down.

When the Fender shipment came in we went through all the Highway ones. BUT.I also handpicked this Strat with the Tech and Manager at Sam Ash both who are very close friends of mine. I bought a SKB Hard Shell Case and its Straight. MOF Fender uses it on Custom Shop Strats.I LIKE the thin Nitro finish. The Greasbucket circuit IMHO is miles better than the delta tone.

And the pre 2008 fender trem blocks are junk.As I said theres a MINT Mahogany Special right here. I prefer Vintage Trem Blocks. I still have a few Standards and American Series. IMHO these are closest to the pre 70 Fender Strats. So immediatly I would have to add $200?I have owned dozens of American Standard and American Series Stratocasters.

For what? To add a thicker coat?These are a STEAL. I could wash it down with Napha, shoot it with Nitro Black and Clear and it would look just like a New Blackie Clapton only NITRO. But with Tex-Mex and Diamond humbuckers SUCK in it.BTW with the shape my body is in.MINT. Great feeling and playing Strat, litte HEAVY IMO.

And as I mentioned, the Middel single coils I like a LOT! And a case.Now take a new American Standard since we already talked the Special. Tuners ans pick-ups is all thats called for. What I am saying i bang for the buck and the changes needed to make this a GREAT Strat? They are no brainers. Especially the High E and you'll be fine.If you wire your pick-ups like mine with a 69 then the stock Alnico III then the Rail, there is no drop off in volume and the guitar sounds GREAT.

The pups are so-so at best.
